Text-to-image refers to AI technology that generates images directly from a written text description. Tools like Midjourney, DALL-E, and Stable Diffusion are all examples — type a detailed description, and the AI generates an entirely new, original image built to match it.

These models are trained on enormous datasets of paired images and their corresponding captions, learning how specific language maps onto visual detail. Using a technique called diffusion, most modern tools start from pure random noise and progressively refine it, step by step, into a coherent image matching the given prompt.

  • Generating custom blog post header images, rather than relying on generic stock photos
  • Creating original product mockups and visual concepts
  • Producing icons and other custom graphic elements
  • Generating a wide range of social media visuals quickly
  • Copyright and ownership questions in this area are still genuinely evolving
  • Some tools, like Adobe Firefly, are trained specifically on licensed, commercially safer imagery
  • Always review a specific tool's terms of service before using its output commercially
